I am running for re-election to the Austin City Council because I love Austin and want to continue working to make it the best place it can be.

As I seek a second term, my priorities remain providing core city services that make our neighborhoods safer and cleaner, and running an office that is responsive to solving problems at City Hall for citizens citywide.

I am committed to seeking out and listening to all perspectives, working hard to get the facts, and using common sense to solve problems. I will always do my best to make reasonable decisions that are in the best interest of the entire community. And while it may be impossible to agree on all issues or to see every challenge coming, it is possible to have thoughtful debate and make decisions that are driven by fairness and common sense.

My record during my first term reflects that approach. Some of my accomplishments include:

Helping Grow Our Economy

  • Helped bring good jobs to Austin and expand local businesses
  • Expanded City support for small, minority and women-owned businesses
  • Helped create City office to support and grow Austin's live music industry, venues and neighborhoods

Prioritizing Reliable City Services

  • Protected core City services and expanded public safety network
  • Improved social service contracts to help our most vulnerable neighbors
  • Advocated successfully for improved parks maintenance citywide

Protecting our Natural Resources

  • Set aggressive renewable energy goals while capping rate increases
  • Helped launch Pecan Street Project to drive smart grid technology research
  • Supported new water conservation goals and long-term treatment capacity

Supporting Austin Neighbors and Neighborhoods

  • Sponsored legislation to prohibit billboards near residential properties
  • Sponsored legislation to revise historic landmark designations program
  • Sponsored Legislation to give neighborhood planning teams appeal rights
This is everybody's Austin, and I am confident in my ability and willingness to continue helping people from all parts of our community, regardless of the issue and regardless of the politics.
